Honolulu Conspiracy Trial Pushed To October 2024 |
The trial for three former Honolulu officials facing federal conspiracy charges has been postponed until October 2024. Donna Leong, Roy Amemiya, and Max Sword were indicted in January 2022 for allegedly orchestrating an improper retirement payout to former police chief Louis Kealoha in 2017 without City Council approval. |
Prosecutors argue that this act, along with attempts to conceal the deal, constitutes a crime. |
The trial's scheduling conflicts stem from Judge Leslie Kobayashi's travel plans, as well as another scheduled leave for a medical procedure. In addition, Prosecutor Michael Wheat already has two trials scheduled for early 2024, adding additional cause for the delay. |
