Last week, Governor Ige officially vetoed controversial House Bill 1567. Ige said that the bill ties the hands of judges, who currently have the power to release individuals on their own recognizance but are not required to do so. |

In the wake of Ige's veto, City Prosecutor Alm pledged to work with local stakeholders to create a new bail system. Alm would like to create a system that functions as a:
“robust and well-funded alternative system that protects public safety.”
