Honolulu City Prosecutor Steve Alm plans to roll out his “weed and seed” program to Waikiki in the upcoming months. Since his election, the program has been reimplemented in the Chinatown/Kalihi-Palama area, and has led to a 60% reduction in crime. |

The idea behind the "Weed & Seed" program is to "weed" out criminals from a particular area, then “seed” the community by investing in social and economic revitalization. City Prosecutor Alm was a guest on the A-1 podcast and the link below explains in full detail, the specifics of the program:

Honolulu City Council Chair Tommy Waters organized a virtual town hall meeting to help announce plans to expand the program to Waikiki:
“The good news is we’ve heard from Steve Alm that ‘Weed and Seed’ is coming..We’re working on getting it here. We put money in the budget.”
